My weekend has been absolutely lovely so far! I took one of my cousins to see "Mean Girls" last night and she loved it. We also took the time to have a "girl talk" which made me quite happy. I love being able to talk to preteen and adolescent girls about some of the pitfalls they are going to face, and advice them how to avoid them. I wasn't a "bad" teen myself(I was too scared of my Grandma to do anything), but there are things I wish I knew back then! I figure if I can keep one or two young ladies from making some of the same mistakes, it'll be worth it. I am sure that my cousin will be just fine though. Her parents have sheltered her from alot. Every time a guy so much as looked at us, she'd grab my hand and ask:"Danielle, are they going to hurt us?" The innocent girl really thought that we were in some kind of danger when a man just said hi....lol! She is just too cute.
Today was even better than yesterday. One of my uncles had a BBQ at his house and it was GREAT! Of course my mom and her siblings had to take a walk down memort lane & regale us with stories of their youth-"Ya'll don't how how easy you have it". Listening to some of the things they used to eat, I'd agree. I mean really, SYRUP sandwiches and sugar water as a MEAL? What the hell? That's crazy. But they look back at those times fondly-more power to 'em. Then my uncle put on Parliament's greatest hits, and it was downhill from there...lol. Don't get me wrong; I love my funk and old school as much as my elders do-but having to listen to my Mom sing and try to dance....that's torture...lol. We had to break out the "Soul Train" line so my younger cousins and I could bust a move and show the old folks how its done!=) We've got to get together like that again soon.
