2004-03-19 - 11:41 a.m. My blessed child arrived sunday night at 10:26pm! It was a girl; I named her Zora Rose. Zora after Zora Neale Hurston the author; Rose after my beloved grandma. Both of these women, to me, epitomize what it means to be a woman and I hope that my daughter will follow in their footsteps. I am so in love with my little girl. Its only five days into her existence, and I can't imagine life without her. I know exactly what moved Stevie Wonder to write the song "Isn't She Lovely?". I sing it to Zora at night. She is just so beautiful, sweet and precious to me. When she smiles or laughs in her sleep the beauty of it makes me want to cry tears of joy. Everyone says she looks exactly like me. I agree, except for her pale complexion. I know she will get her color later, but its clear that she will take after her father & not me in that respect. They say that the color of the ears reveals what the baby's tone will be....judging by Zora's, she will be a rich carmel. Zora Rose, Zora Rose.....such a lovely little girl. I can't wait for her official pictures to come so I can show them off. She is a pretty good baby; doesn't cry excessively and is easy to pacify. She is a very good nurser which is a relief-I don't have to prod her into feeding. She naps at 2-4 hour intervals, which means an adjustment for me of course. I don't really feel excessively tired or irritated by this though. I have pretty much given up on the idea of getting a 7-8 hr night of sleep for a VERY long time. Oh looks like she is waking up which means she is ready for lunch. Gotta go!
